Explanation with Reference to Context of Important Line  .

Answer :
Context -:
This line has been taken from the Story Lalajee written by Jim Corbett .



Explanation  -:
The last words of ‘Lalajee’ showed the deep sense of gratitude (kindness) to the writer who had not only nursed him but also helped him with money. The above words of Lalajee also confirmed the truth of the writer’s statement. “The poor of India never forget the kindness”. Even after repaying the loan to the writer. Lalajee was willing to make any sacrifice for the writer. Moreover, he called himself a slave of the writer.

Show the qualities of Lalajee as describe by Jim Corbett in the lesson Lalajee .

Answer : 

Lalajee was a noble example of Indian tradition. He was a symbol of truth and honesty. He was a man of word and he proved it with his action. Lalajee was once a rich merchant. He was leading a comfortable life. When his business increased he took a partner. It was his mistake that he trusted his partner blindly . When he returned from his Journey , he found that he had been ruined (robbed) . His partner had robbed him . Lalajee became penniless . He had to work for other merchant to support his family.
Once Lalajee was going from Muzaffarpur to Gaya on his master’s business . On the way he had an attack of Cholera . He lay beside the Ganga to die as he had no desire to live . The author felf pity on Lalajee and took him to his house . He not only saved his life but also helped him with money . Lalajee promised the author that he would pay the loan with in one year and he fulfilled his promise .
Lalajee went back and restarted his business of grain . Lalajee worked hard and within few months he became prosperous . He paid back his loan . Really he was a man of word . He did not forget the kindness and gratitude shown by the author .

Character sketch of Jim Corbett / Sahib ?

What makes you believe that the writer of the story “Lalajee” has an awakened (जागृत)
social Conscience (सामाजिक विवेक ) ?

Answer :
Jim Corbett is the narrator of the story Lalajee . He is known as Sahib . He is a kind human being . He has many good qualities which impress us the most . He is trusting , sympathetic (सहानुभूतिपूर्ण) and generous(उदार). Seening alone passenger suffering from Cholera , Sahib takes pity on him . This passenger is Lalajee . Sahib knows that Cholera is a dreadful (भयानक) disease yet he takes Lalajee to his home and nurses him. He gives his shelter(आश्रय) He knows that half of cholera patient die due to fear that is why he fills confidence in the patient with his treatment . He allows him to stay at his home until he regains his healthfully. Finally Lalajee recovers soon with his treatment. After Listening to Lalajee’s tragic (दुखद) story , Sahib advises him to restart his grain business. When Lalajee tells him that he has no money to start the business. Sahib decided to help him with money. It shows that Sahib is not only generous (उदार) but he has complete trust in human being. Sahib has great understanding of human nature. He believes that the poor of India never forget Kindness and Gratitude (एहसान). It proves true . Lalajee returns his money . But Sahib does not accept interest from him . It shows that Sahib is neither greedy nor selfish . He had given the money without any motive . But he is happy that he has been able to helped, Lalajee is becoming a merchant again. Thus, his humanity and generosity (उदारता) impress us the most He is a noble and great character .
