B.Com 2nd Year I DO NOT INTEND TO WRITE A POEM Lecture - 15

XV. I do not intend to write a poem
Channaveera Kanavi
This poem is connected with the art of composing poems. It shows that a poem can be written in a peaceful atmosphere only. The poet, therefore, postpones the idea of writing a poem for the time-being. Being ready for his office, he does not feel like undertaking this task. He is not sufficiently inspired to create a genuine poem.

in circles,
The world’s labour finds its rhyming in    metres

In the freedom of free verse.”

Answer :
Reference to Context :-
These have been taken from the poem “I Do not Intend To Write A Poem”, written by Channaveera Kanavi.

Explanation :-
The poet has come to the conclusion that life moves in a circle. He does not find any shortcut to it. Every person has to undergo this circular journey of life. The poet also observes that the work done by the people in the world does not go unrecognised. It is this labour that the poet celebrate in his poetry. Every form of poetry, namely, meter, blank verse, free verse, is fit for dramatising the world’s labour.

Ques 2)
What is the poem ‘I do not Intend to write a poem’ all about ?

Answer :
In the poem the poet talks about the art of composing poems. It shows how a poem takes its birth. A poem can be created in a peaceful atmosphere only. It can never be composed in a hurry. The poem is also a criticism of the routine type of mechanical life. He has not found solutions to yesterday’s problems by working hard. His life is going on round and round in circles and seems more worthless each passing day. He does not feel any sense of achievement from his monotonous and uninteresting life.
