Ogden Nash
Ques 1)
Explain with reference to context –
Most bankers dwell (रहना) in Marble halls.
Answer :
Reference to Context :-
The
above line has been composed (रची गई है) from the poem, ‘Bankers Are Just Like Anybody Else, Except
Richer’ by Ogden Nash. The poem deals with the life of bankers.
Explanation :-
Banks
are the safest places (सबसे सुरक्षित स्थान) of depositing money. They are situated in modern buildings.
The bankers like to conduct their business in building of precious marbles(कीमती पत्थर). They believe in the
life of pomp and show (धूमधाम और दिखावा). It is the beauty of the banks that multiplies deposits
and discourage withdrawals. It is the glamour (ठाठ बाट) of the banks that cast
spell (जादू डालती है) on the depositors. A depositor feels no pinch in depositing
his hard-earned money in the bank. He feels that his money is safe in the bank.
LOng question
Ques 1)
What is the golden rule of the bankers? How is it applied to
the poor and the rich?
Answer :-
The
Golden Rule of the bankers is that they should lend money(पैसा उधार देना) only to those persons
who really need it. It also means that deposits should be encouraged. But the
bankers are very partial while giving loans to their customers. They do not
follow set rules in dealing with their customers. They have strange attitude(अजीब रवैया) towards the poor. They
treat them in a very casual manner. If a person goes to a bank for a small loan
to pay off his house rent or other purpose, he is not given even a penny(एक पैसा). The bankers tell the
man to get away because the banks are not for persons like him. But the Bankers
attitude towards the rich person is extremely soft and helpful. If a rich
person applies for a loan of ten lakh dollars, he will get it right away. The
bankers will not be hesitated in lending such a big amount. The bank manager
might like to please his rich customer by sending the amount at his house.
